The laser visa or Border Crossing Card is a credit card-sized document that functions as a B1/B2 tourist visa for Mexican citizens.

Generally, this document is valid for 10 years and allows for multiple trips to the United States for authorized activities such as:

The laser visa does not authorize you to work or study in the United States.

Once the visa expires, it is no longer valid to request entry into the United States.
In other words, even if you have used the visa for years without issues, you will not be able to cross the border or board a flight to the United States with an expired visa.
However, this does not mean you lose the right to apply for a new visa or a renewal.
