Following the arrest of Danna Yanina ‘N’, an alleged accomplice in the death of teenager Dafne Zapata at the Marina Doenitz Militarized Academy, and the public outcry from her mother, Alejandra Quintos, seeking justice, details have emerged regarding the mistreatment students often experience.

In an interview with Azucena Uresti, a student from 2020 to 2025 named Diego Pérez detailed some of the experiences he had at the academy, first as a middle school student, later in high school, and during the camps.

According to Diego, he and his peers were forced to perform excessive exercise in the sun; if they asked for water, the staff would pour it onto the floor so they would have to drink it from there. Diego recalled enduring physical mistreatment, including beatings administered by his own peers, and witnessing several times how officers abused students with autism or other health conditions: “They would beat them a lot, many times they even tied them up and put them in kennels (...) for days without food,” he revealed.

He also said that his fellow campers were subjected to verbal aggression and beatings, as well as hazing that led to injuries.

The young man recalled telling his mother some things about what was happening, but he did not want to leave the academy because he thought what was happening was normal and that it all helped him become stronger and build character.

Furthermore, he noted that it was not that easy to leave the school, as a fine of over 50,000 pesos was imposed to release personal documents.

Like this testimony, many others have emerged on social media, where alumni have detailed the mistreatment received at the hands of Estrella ‘N’ and the assistant Yanina ‘N’, as well as the hazing and punishments imposed on the youths under the guise of reforming them.

Alumnus Kevin Ortega denounced abuse, physical and psychological violence by the staff against students, including himself, where he was subjected to punishments that lasted weeks, such as not being allowed to go home for months or false accusations of theft or bad behavior.

He also pointed out that the academy functioned to train students only to get money from the parents: “If you tried to ask for help, they told you it was your fault and that you were exaggerating,” he said.

He added that Yanina ‘N’, arrested for the Dafne case, was his classmate in high school and went on to become an assistant, and that the teacher Estrella, in charge of caring for Dafne at the summer camp, would beat and threaten them; she would bathe the smaller children with ice water, endangering their health.

In addition to all this, Diego said there was a commander who took intimate photos of the girls and that there were even teachers who had relationships with the students.

¿Qué pasó con Dafne Zapata? ¿Cómo murió?

Last week, the case of the death of 13-year-old Dafne Zapata at the Doenitz academy in Tamaulipas went viral. According to her mother, the teenager entered a summer camp on July 13th, and she was notified of her death on the 17th of the same month.

Since then, her mother has publicly denounced irregularities in her death and in the treatment she received at the academy hours before she passed away. Alejandra Quintos said that her daughter had sent her a video telling her she had fallen but was fine; shortly after, instructor Estrella 'N' asked for authorization to take her to the doctor because she felt unwell.

Four days after entering the academy, Quintos received a call asking her to come pick up the body of her daughter who, allegedly, had died in the shower.

In several interviews and videos shared on social media, Quintos has said that the cause of Dafne's death was asphyxia due to submersion, according to the forensic medical report, and that it was , with alleged perpetrators including assistant Danna Yanina ‘N’, commander Estrella ‘N’, and director Jorge Luis Ponce.

“My daughter is 13 years old and she is dead, I want justice, I want all those responsible to pay, and save the children, do not leave them, do not enroll them there. They are murderers!” Quintos noted.

The victim's mother detailed that she received her daughter's body with multiple bruises on her face, with no clothes on, in addition to other signs of torture and fractures.
